DRIFT.
A downloadable game
Illuminated by LUMEN, inspired by Pacific Rim, DRIFT is centered around dramatic combat between towering robot protectors and an ever-changing monster menace.
In this PDF are pilot archetypes, robot frames, kaiju, mission ideas and more.
- Perhaps you're a hot-blooded Brawler working with the drone-controlling Tech, the two of you becoming the brains behind the ultramodern Protean-class unit.
- You could always be a Captain, drawn from retirement to help pilot the Rampart-class unit, calling the shots and driving the others to actions they thought impossible.
- Maybe you're just some nobody, trying to get by in a smaller mech constructed with spare parts and a dream, constructing scrap walls and leaving traps in your wake.
- Or perhaps I should just mention that there is a mechanic for launching your giant robot into the sky, and then diving from the heavens lance-first onto your opponent.
This is a 20-ish page demo constructed for the LUMEN jam, and I'm not sure if I'm ever going to come back to it. As such, it's up on itch for free - free to check out, or attempt to play it, or simply to take it to pieces and find the good parts.
Some ideas for what the future of DRIFT could be:
(AKA 'what was left on my nice-to-have-but-not-essential to-do list':)
- rounding out the pilot archetypes, including the resourceful Scout (to make sure the terrain is always on your side), the Twin (who drifts perfectly with their co-pilot, at the cost of additional skills and maneuvers), and others
- customizable robots! while it was fun thinking about robots from film, there is a lot of space within the game for robot customization including swapping out weapons, and using mods in the place of robot maneuvers.
- more robust mission generation: tables to quickly build adventures, minimizing the prep needed for time-sensitive groups or providing inspiration and vibes for the GM that likes to craft bespoke sessions.
- enemy construction: I'm still not sure where the hits and misses are in terms of enemy strength, so i would have liked to devote a whole section to creating enemies either randomly, with purpose, or in tandem with missions.
- and of course, layout. graphic design is my passion (๐ธ), but affinity publisher is not yet my friend.
Thanks for checking out my page! You're great.
